1. General information
The subject, given its introductory nature, is located in the first four-month period. It is the first theoretical contact with Social Work and, therefore, it is important that students acquire the knowledge and skills to understand the disciplinary identity and place the profession in the field of social action.
In order to understand what Social Work is, it is necessary to delve into its history, its doctrinal body, as well as to know the theories that support it and the professional practices that make it concrete. It is also about making a first approach to the situations presented by the individuals, groups or communities that will be the object of your professional intervention.
Finally, this subject tries to transmit the importance of some rights and obligations, framed in the Code of Ethics Deontological Code.
There are no requirements to take it.
2. Learning results
Identify the main elements and protagonists of the history of Social Work, and its relationship with the history of the social work
Social Action and the Social Sciences.
Explain the nature of Social Work as a profession and as a discipline.
To have an overview of the main groups of people attended to, types of needs and responses, as well as as resources and spaces in which Social Work is developed together with other professions in the social field.
Structuring the institutional framework of Social Work.
Know the Code of Ethics of the profession, its values, principles and ethical standards.
Know and apply the terminology specific to the field of social work.
Develop the capacity for exposition, synthesis and the ability to relate concepts,
Work as a team, constructively criticizing the opinions of others, sharing information and knowledge with their peers to find joint solutions.

Unit 2. Charity Organization Societies.
Unit 3. Settlements.
Unit 4. History of Social Work in Aragon and Spain.
What is social work?
Unit 6. Areas and sectors.
Unit 7. Social Work today.
Unit 8. Social Work Ethics.
4. Academic activities
Master classes: 30 hours
Theoretical sessions in which the contents of the subject will be explained
Problems and cases: 30 hours
Activities through different materials in small groups.
Teaching assignments: 27 hours
Preparation of a group work supervised by the teacher in charge.
Personal study: 60 hours
Assessment tests: 3 hours
5. Assessment system
The subject will be assessed by the continuous assessment system by means of the following activities:
Test 1. Theoretical-practical individual written test of short and/or essay questions (40% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10). The assessment criteria are: mastery of content, use of terminology, accuracy of concepts, justification of arguments.
-Exhibit 2: Written work in essay, report or other form (30% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10). The evaluation criteria for are: correct development of the structure and contents; formal, writing and spelling aspects;terminological rigor.
-Exhibit 3: Summary and critical analysis of various readings (30% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10). The evaluation criteria are: synthesis capacity, adequate use of terminology, justification of arguments, formal, writing and spellingaspects.
